What Is Autologous Tissue Rhinoplasty?
Autologous rhinoplasty is a surgical technique that uses tissue harvested from your own body—such as dermis or cartilage—without relying on synthetic implants.
While autologous tissue may be partially absorbed over time and can be limited in quantity, it offers key advantages: lower risk of complications or inflammation and more natural, softer results.
Common autologous materials include:
– For the nasal bridge: gluteal dermis, temporalis fascia, and rib cartilage
– For the nasal tip: ear cartilage, septal cartilage, and rib cartilage
For minor augmentation of the nasal tip or glabella (between the eyebrows), various types of tissue may be used.
However, when increasing the height of the nasal bridge, a larger volume is required—meaning only gluteal dermis or rib cartilage can be used effectively, making material options more limited in such cases.
