Q What causes nostril retraction?

The alar cartilage naturally curves slightly upward, and the front portion of the nostril lacks cartilage—consisting only of skin. Because this area has no structural support, the nostril rim can retract over time. To correct this, reinforcement of the unsupported nostril edge is often necessary.

Q What’s the difference between composite grafting and the V–Y advancement flap technique?

Unlike composite grafting, the V–Y flap technique does not involve transplanting skin from another area. Because no separate graft is used, there is no risk of graft necrosis or foreign material accumulation. This makes the V–Y method a safer and more stable option in many cases.

Q Can nostril retraction come back after surgery?

In some cases, the nostril may not lower as much as expected, but true recurrence does not occur.
